Beyond signs of distress, your pet cannot tell our veterinarians where they hurt or about their symptoms. Thus, we rely heavily on observation, medical history, and lab testing to help us diagnose and assist your pet back to health.
Lab tests are also useful as an early-warning screening tool to catch an illness long before it shows up in other ways. The earlier a problem is found, the more successful the treatment program is likely to be.
So that we can rapidly diagnose and treat your pet, we maintain an extensive in-house lab to conduct the more common tests that are needed. This allows us to have answers the same day.
Some of the many tests we perform are:
- Complete blood counts
- Blood chemistry panels
- Thyroid testing
- Blood coagulation tests
- Feline leukemia tests
- Feline AIDS test
- Feline Heartworm Tests
- Canine Heartworm Tests
- Dermatology Testing (Skin mites, Ear swabs, skin bacteria and fungal)
- Complete Intestinal Parasite and Analysis Testing
We also offer glaucoma testing, blood pressure testing, EKG testing, and others.
A primary benefit of our in-house lab is that we can obtain your pet’s lab results often within minutes. This speeds up care and lowers costs. It also lets us do pre-anesthetic testing that gives our doctors vital information prior to surgery. This can be very useful if your pet is being seen on an emergency basis.
When needed, we do also work with outside labratories for more specialized or complex testing procedures..
